If you’ve ever ended the day wondering how you did everything but still feel behind — this is for you.
-You’re not unmotivated.
-You’re not disorganized.
You’re carrying the mental load of a household and a business.
As a wife, mom, and business owner, your life doesn’t fit neatly into color-coded hours. It’s layered, interrupted, and constantly shifting. That’s why traditional schedules often leave moms feeling like they’re failing — even when they’re doing their absolute best.
This is where block scheduling changes everything.
What Is Block Scheduling?
Block scheduling is a way of planning your time by categories instead of tasks.
Instead of trying to assign every minute of your day, you group your time into blocks like:
- Routines
- Work
- Family
- Personal
- Activities
You’re not deciding what to do every second — you’re deciding what your focus is for that period of time.
This creates flexibility without chaos — which is exactly what moms need.
Why Block Scheduling Works So Well for Moms
Motherhood comes with multitasking – it’s a true skill 😉
-You’re answering emails while unloading groceries.
-You’re thinking about dinner during meetings.
-You’re mentally planning tomorrow while finishing today.
Block scheduling helps because it:
- reduces decision fatigue
- lowers mental load
- creates boundaries between roles
- allows room for interruptions
Instead of feeling behind when the day doesn’t go perfectly, you still know you’re focused on the right thing.
Take Action
I’m a mom that takes action, and now you are too.
I want you to time yourself over the course of this next week. I want you to pick up on your daily routines, your habits that come into play and start taking notice where you are putting a lot of your time and energy into….
- How long does laundry take?
- How long does answering emails take?
- How long does content creation take?
- How long does your morning and nighttime routine take?
Catch my drift? This will help allocate appropriate timing and feel free to round up on your times to give yourself some wiggle room (ie: emails take 45min – give them an hour block)
Now grab a piece of paper and brain dump everything you do for yourself, your family, your job, hobby or business don’t leave anything out….
Examples just to get your brain turning… Emails, editing, scheduling, email marketing, Pinterest marketing, content creation, accounting, blogging, client calls, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, get kids to school, pick up kids from school, time with family, time with friends, time with significant other, brainstorming, journaling, Canva, morning routines, evening routines, massages, nails, lunch dates, coffee dates, praying, meditating, visualization, cooking, cleaning, laundry, meal prep, Netflix + chill…
Don’t leave anything out!

Now that it’s been a week and you have monitored/timed yourself… you know exactly what your overwhelming list of tasks are… You’re going to access this spread sheet (insert link here)
I have categorized these 5 main things into columns:
- Tasks
- Length
- Can someone do this for me?
- Do I actually need this?
- What do I need to do?
So… write in your task – you’re going to type in roughly how long it took you to do each one. Feel free to group some tasks. (Like posting to all of your social media accounts at the same time and engaging with comments and accounts simultaneously.)
Ask yourself… Can someone do this for me? A partner, a friend, delegating to a coworker, hiring out for grocery shopping, Pinterest… you name it. Put a (Y) yes, next to all of the things that could potentially be done by someone else and a (N) no to the things left for yours truly.
Do you actually need this… Do you actually need to scroll social media to get content inspiration… I’m guilty of it, but the answer is no, no you do not. Do you need to watch TV every night before you go to bed… no. The goal here is to cut out all the fluff from your day.
NOW you absolutely deserve to watch TV before you go to bed… I’m not saying that you can’t do something, just recognize that oh I could’ve used that hour by doing a nightly routine or reading a book or doing something for my business or something for my kids etc..
And last but certainly not least what do you need to do? These are the things that no one can step in to do like Working out, brainstorming and creating content, school activities etc..
Once you have completed your spreadsheet, you are then going to organize all that into a calendar.
{I have linked my Planned + Curated Notion template for my mamas that are on the go and need to access everything at once.} Access it here (Link to Notion Template here)
You’ll see real quick that we actually have more time than we think, so eliminating tasks that drain our energy or things that won’t bring us results. We need to drop them like a bad habit!
You can still have a life, just put it in your calendar and stick to it. Consistency is key here…

Designing a Week That Actually Feels Good
The biggest mistake moms make is trying to schedule like they don’t have kids – we are superwomen but even though we want to do it all – it just isn’t realistic and the first step is accepting it and not letting it lead to burn out {external link to another blog post about burn out}
- Start with your non-negotiables
- Identify when your energy is highest
- Choose 3–5 blocks per day max
Your schedule should feel supportive — not packed.
Organized but free flowing
-Some days are busy.
-Some days are slow.
-Some days are survival mode.
Block scheduling works because it adapts and YOU are in charge of your time.
Digital + Paper Can Work Together
This isn’t about choosing digital or paper to keep your schedule on track.
Your digital planner (my favorite here) is perfect for:
- big-picture planning
- tracking
- holding everything in one place
Your paper planner is perfect for:
- daily grounding – pen to paper
- quick lists and mental notes
- Something tangible and personalized
Together, they reduce mental clutter and increase calm.
Take planning another step further with Romanticizing Your Routines
-This is where structure meets softness.
-Light a candle during your weekly reset.
-Plan with coffee.
-Use tools that feel beautiful and intuitive.
When your systems feel supportive, consistency becomes easier.
